How to reach Montpellier from abroad?

Montpellier is well connected to major European and international cities by air, train, and road.

✈️ By plane

Montpellier–Méditerranée Airport (MPL) is located about 10 km from the city center.
It offers direct flights to several European cities and international hubs including London and Amsterdam.

From the airport, you can reach the city center:

  • by tramway (Line 3)

  • by shuttle bus

  • by taxi or ride-sharing services

Travel time to the city center is approximately 20–30 minutes.

Alternatively, you can fly to major nearby airports such as Paris (CDG or ORY), Marseille (MRS), or Lyon (LYS), then continue by train.


🚆 By train

Montpellier is served by two main stations:

  • Montpellier Sud de France (TGV)

  • Montpellier Saint-Roch (city center)

High-speed trains connect Montpellier with:

  • Paris (about 3–3.5 hours by TGV)

  • Barcelona

  • Lyon, Marseille, and other major cities

International travelers often arrive in Paris or another major European city and then take a TGV to Montpellier.
